Help for Heroes was established in 2007 by Bryn and Emma Parry, after they made a visit to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham. Moved by the courage and determination of the badly wounded young people returning from Iraq and Afghanistan who were being treated there, they decided they wanted to do something to help.

Since then, with the help of numerous supporters, they have raised over £44 million, that’s about a £1 million a month! Money raised is put to use on particular projects such as improving facilities at Headley Court, the military rehabilitation centre in Surrey. They also make awards to other military charities such as Combat Stress and SSAFA to help them with their valuable work with members of HM Armed Forces.

The Gumpathon will be generating funds for Help for Heroes and we at Goko are proud to be offering support to this very worthwhile effort.

SKRUM Logo

SKRUM is a children's Charity based out in Swaziland which uses rugby coaching to encourage children into schools to learn about HIV/AIDS and gender abuse and how to protect themselves from these issues.

Swaziland has recently surpassed Botswana as the country with the highest
HIV/AIDS rates in the world. The average life expectancy is 32 years. The children of this country need help in becoming more aware of the disease and SKRUM uses the spirit of rugby to reach out to them and make this possible.

The SKRUM program has now visited over 200 schools and provided HIV/AIDS education to over 11,000 children in Swaziland but the program needs support to be able to reach out to the rest of the 160,000 orphans and vulnerable children in Swaziland.

    Home of Hope

Situated in Milner Road, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Home of Hope cares for 28 children ranging from babies to teenagers. The Home was founded by Mama Gladys, who took in abandoned babies that landed on her doorstep. She also looks after abandoned children left at police stations and convinces mothers with unwanted pregnancies to let her care for their babies rather than elect an abortion. Mama Gladys is supported by some of her older children, who have qualified as health care providers thanks to her support and encouragement.

We were immediately touched by Mama Gladys's brave efforts, and have volunteered to take care of the home's monthly electricity bill. We have also donated food to the home, which, with so many mouths to feed, is constantly in demand. View photo's from the home here.
